Go Crazy About Something!

Lotus Seed Pod Pen Drawing

Research is systematic.

It’s what kickstarts ideas, aids development through reflection, documentation, investigation and design. However with my own interests and values within the world of graphic design and illustration, despite always accumulating new references and materials, I enjoy revisiting the one thing i’m crazy obsessed with– natural forms.

Observing the depth of detail, pattern, shape and colours of natural forms encourages my imagination in a very abstract sort of way. Doing more of this would be fun although it would also be interesting to see if I could draw these things from memory and perhaps play around with the details and shapes away from their original form. Could I spend a shorter time on my drawings and capture details differently? Could I combine these natural details with other objects to create the ultimate abstract? Only experimentation will answer that.
