The Diary of Frida Kahlo: An Intimate Self-Portrait

As I wanted to document my sketchbooks, to show authentic exploration, seeing them as an artefact as oppose to focusing on what the content is about, I decided it would perhaps be helpful to look at other portrayals of sketchbooks in the form of publications to figure out how best to approach documenting my own. I came across The Diary of Frida Kahlo: an Intimate Self-portrait which was full of full page spreads illustrating colourful handwritten notes from her sketchbook as well as paintings, collages and ink drawings. I felt really drawn to the varied use of mediums and textures demonstrated in her sketchbook. I think it encourages and inspires you to want to have the freedom to use a range of image making processes.
