Ideas for PRICK’s Greetings Cards
After getting to grips with the social media posting, promoting cacti and succulent illustration, I moved onto my next task which was designing greetings cards for PRICK. I had initially showed Gynelle some illustrations in my sketchbook so she had an idea as to what I had in mind for the greetings cards – which helped me communicate my thinking with her so that her ideas came from what I presented to her.
Layers in a publication format
Exploring the idea of thinking about a box metaphorically to complete my final box set of prints, I decided to print out the scanned images of both my distorted type and letterpress experiments to test the possibility of making a publication.
Using Letterpress with My Text
Seeing that I had now directed my focus on using the collection of postcards as my point of development and inspiration, I thought to experiment with typography on the other end of the spectrum away from hand rendered type, using more structured type thus using the letterpress facilities was perfectly suited for that particular exploration.
Initial Ideas for My D&AD Outcomes
Being an illustrator that enjoys using mostly traditional hand-crafted techniques when creating my work, I decided to pick the D&AD brief set by Adobe because I felt it was the most appropriate in terms of how I enjoy working. The brief is to dig deep into hard-won wisdom and life lessons and celebrate those through illustration or photography by creating a series of 3 posters or prints.
Following my experimentation with drawing the plants and weeds in ink, varying the thickness of line and colour, I thought my drawings would translate well into the medium of print
